"Remember this, for it is as true as true gets: Your body is not a lemon. You are not a machine. The Creator is not a careless mechanic. Human female bodies have the same potential to give birth well as aardvarks, lions, rhinoceri, elephants, moose and water buffalo. Even if it has not been your habit throughout your life so far, I recommend that you learn to think positively about your body."

A Doula Defined

What is a doula?

At the very core of the definition, a doula is a caregiver. However, a labor doula’s role in the birth experience of an expectant mother and her partner is far more in depth than a simple word can define. She is trained and experienced in providing emotional support, evidence based information, and hands on comfort techniques. She teaches, she guides and reassures. She addresses the many needs that women have during childbirth- tailored to each personal and unique circumstance. Her goal is to help each mother and her partner to have the most satisfying birth experience possible. A Doula truly cares.

Meet Melissa Fuller

Melissa is a CAPPA certified labor doula who resides in western Massachusetts with her husband and two beautiful children. She enjoys cooking, hosting meals for family and friends, getting together for play dates, and being outdoors. She has aspirations of being a great gardener someday, but for now most of her efforts are focused on growing and nurturing her little ones. Melissa has a genuine passion for providing care and support to laboring women. She was trained as a labor doula in 2013 and has been able to offer her services to many wonderful families since that time.

Getting Started

If you are considering hiring a doula, Melissa would like to schedule an initial "no obligation" interview. This would be a reciprocal assessment- in which the two of you will get to know one another to see if hiring her as your doula will be a good fit. This meeting would also be a chance for her to hear about your goals, desires, and concerns for your birthing day- as well as answer your questions and elaborate on what she would bring to the table. It is important to choose a doula who you feel comfortable with and confident in. Melissa considers it a great honor to be hired to serve on your team during a very special and important day in your lives.

Benefits Of Hiring A Doula
Over the years, research has shown numerous significant beneifits that directly result from hiring a doula to assist a mother on her birthing day. These benefits include:
  • 50% reduction in cesarean rates
  • 40% reduction in vacuum assisted deliveries
  • 25% shorter labors
  • 60% reduction in epidural requests
  • 40% reduction in forceps delivery
